Solís is continuing to delight his fans around the world with his own classics as well as with the songs he released with Los Bukis - including the audience and viewers of the 2022 Latin GRAMMYs. Solís' legacy in Latin music spans over six decades, and was celebrated with a bilingual exhibit at the GRAMMY Museum in 2021. This past May, Solís and Los Bukis booked a second leg of their wildly successful reunion tour. ![]() Later that year, Solís launched a world tour with Los Bukis that sold out stadiums across the U.S. In 2021, Solís surprised the Latin music world when he reunited with Los Bukis - nearly 25 years after his split with the band. He is no stranger to the Latin GRAMMYs, having won five awards throughout his career as a solo artist. ![]() The band released numerous classic songs and helped popularize the grupero genre, before Solís decided to go solo in 1996.Īs a solo artist and songwriter, Solís has continued to achieve great success. ![]() In 1975, Solís co-founded the iconic Mexican group Los Bukis. Solís has achieved success as a songwriter, artist, and lead singer, with a career that spans more than six decades. He received a well-deserving standing ovation following his captivating set. On the Latin GRAMMY stage, Solís gave a moving performance that showcased a bit of his decades-long career.Īfter being honored with the Person of the Year Award, Solís gave a heartfelt performance of his ballad "Se Veia Venir." He then proudly embraced his Mexican roots for his second song "La Venia Bendita." Solís was joined onstage by Jose Hernandez and Mariachi Sol De México, surrounded by a digital background of swirling butterflies. This year, the Mexican icon was honored with the 2022 Latin Recording Academy Award for Person Of The Year. Each song was greeted by cheers of enthusiastic recognition, seemingly suggesting that no hit or fan favorite was left off the set list.Īll in all, it seemed clear that Marco Antonio Solís gave his audience exactly what they wanted - and that’s more than a lot of this season’s Bowl performers can say.Marco Antonio Solís is one of the most celebrated singer/songwriters in Latin music. And, while such a musical undertaking is nothing to laugh at, one had to chuckle at the montages of the bearded, long-haired Solís on balconies and beaches mouthing the words being sung a fraction of a second ahead of their pace.Įqually as impressive was the audience’s devotion to Solís’s music. Such attendees may have accidentally identified themselves as being a “gordita” by raising their glass during one of these comedic interludes.Įach of Solís’s songs were accompanied by the music video of that song, synched with the live music which was performed entirely in person by a band composed of more than a dozen musicians. Monologues in between songs were received with laughs and excited hoots and hollers, to such a degree that even the attendees who did not speak Spanish (both of us) found themselves laughing, so as to not stand out too dramatically.
